Betta Expert ("we," "our," or "the app") is a mobile application for freshwater betta fish keepers. It offers care guidance, photo-based tools, emergency-style intake, compatibility guidance, and chat-style assistance. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information when you use the app.

1. Information We Collect

• Photos you upload: When you use features such as Betta Health Diagnosis or other tools that accept images, you may upload photos of your betta or tank. These images are processed to provide insights or general information as described in the app.
• Information you enter: Data you provide (for example species, notes, tank details, symptoms, or fields requested by a tool—including SOS Emergency intake or Compatibility Tracker) is used to personalize results and improve the quality of guidance.
• Chat messages: If you use Ask Betta Expert or other chat features, your messages and conversation history may be stored on your device and/or our systems to maintain context and improve your experience.
• Account and subscription data: If you create an account or subscribe, we may process identifiers and subscription status as needed to provide access and manage billing through the app stores and our backend.
• Technical data: We may receive information such as device type and app usage to help us fix issues and improve the app. We use Supabase for backend services (storage, functions, and optional authentication).

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

• Provide and improve Betta Health Diagnosis, SOS Emergency (Betta SOS), Compatibility Tracker, Ask Betta Expert, care checklists, and related features
• Process images and text through secure, third-party AI services (for example OpenAI) that power these features
• Store uploaded photos and data on secure servers (Supabase) as needed to deliver the service
• Verify subscription or account status where applicable
• Respond to your support requests when you contact us

3. Third-Party Services

We rely on the following types of third parties:

• Supabase: Hosting, storage, and backend functions. Your photos and app data may be stored and processed by Supabase in accordance with their privacy practices.
• OpenAI (or similar AI providers): To analyze photos and text for insights and chat responses. Data sent to these providers is used to generate responses and is subject to their respective privacy policies.
• Apple App Store / Google Play: If you purchase a subscription, payment and certain account details are processed by the platform according to their terms and privacy policies.
• Subscription management (e.g. RevenueCat or similar): When enabled, we may use a provider to validate purchases and entitlements. That provider receives transaction-related data as needed to provide its service.

We do not sell your personal information to third parties.

4. Data Retention

We retain your uploaded photos and related data only as long as necessary to provide the service and to comply with legal obligations. You may request deletion of your data by contacting us.

5. Your Rights

6. Security

We use industry-standard measures to protect your data in transit and at rest. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure; we encourage you to use the app only with data you are comfortable sharing for the purposes described here.

7. Children

Betta Expert is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have collected such information, please contact us so we can delete it.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the updated policy at this URL and update the "Last updated" date. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
